Technology Access Fee

Students enrolled at UMC pay a technology access fee based upon the number of registered credits each semester. The fee covers the costs associated with providing students with: notebook computers; pre-installed software; access to laser printers; power and LAN connections in classrooms, residence halls, and lounges; assistance from the Computer Help Desk; e-mail system; student Web page account; on-line library card catalogs; and World Wide Web access.

All students pay a technology access fee each semester. Students registered for .5 to 5.5 credits pay a reduced technology access fee and may check out a notebook computer on a daily basis. These part-time students may elect to pay the full $500 fee and will be issued a notebook computer for the entire semester.

  • 6.0 or more credits $ 500 (Notebook issued for the semester)
  • 0.5 to 5.5 credits $ 100 (Notebook checked out daily)
  • Less than .5 credits $ 00 (Notebook checked out daily)

NOTE: Students issued a notebook computer must sign a rental contract. Students are responsible for lost/theft of the notebook computer. UMC limits the students liability for damages to $500 per occurrence. Failure to return the computer at the end of the semester or upon cancellation from school will result in a late fee assessment of $50, and a weekly charge of $31.25.  If the computer is not returned upon demand, the student will be assessed the current market value of the notebook computer.  Students are encouraged to read the contract carefully and to arrange for personal insurance coverage for the notebook.

UMC also provides toll-free long distance access to the Internet for students who live in selected areas outside the local calling area. This service is provided at no additional cost to our students.
