Credit Balance Check Disbursements

Your financial aid awards are disbursed on a term-by-term basis. You will be sent and e-mail confirming that your aid has been disbursed. Disbursement(s) of your financial aid will be made electronically to your University student account a few days prior to the start of each semester if you have:

  • Registered on time for the minimum number of credits required by your financial aid award program(s);

  • Completed all necessary paperwork (including promissory notes, if required);

  • No holds on your record that would prevent disbursement of your aid

When your aid award for a term has been credited to your student account, it will be applied against your tuition, fees, and on-campus room and board charges. If your aid is less than the amount of these charges your account will reflect the remainder due. If your aid is greater than the total of these charges, your account will reflect a credit balance.

Financial aid is credited to your account for each term and is term specific. Your financial aid will not pay the balance on your account from a previous term. Due to federal regulations, financial aid will pay only certain charges on your account unless you specifically request that any credit balance be applied against other institutional charges. Charges which financial aid will not pay unless authorized by you include long distance telephone, late registrations, late payment fees, library fines, and aviation training.

If you elect to have a check made payable to you it will be disbursed by the Business Office according to the schedule shown.

Procedures

  • Present your student ID ("U Card") at the UMC Business Office in Selvig Hall during the first week of each term.

  • If you do not claim your Fall Semester check(s) when they are available, your Spring Semester aid will be cancelled unless you notify the Office of Admissions and Student Financial Aid, in writing, of your planned fall and/or spring enrollment.
