Minnesota State Grant
To be considered for a Minnesota State Grant a student must be considered to be a "resident" by meeting one of the following criteria:
- An independent student who has resided in Minnesota for purposes other than post-secondary education for at least 12 months;
- A dependent student whose parent or legal guardian resides in Minnesota at the time the student applies;
- A student who graduated from a Minnesota high school, if the student was a resident of Minnesota during the student's period of attendance at the Minnesota high school
- A student who, after residing in the state for a minimum of one year, earned a high school equivalency certificate (GED) in Minnesota.
If you are eligible for a Minnesota State Grant, your original award is based on full-time enrollment. The state of Minnesota has defined full-time for this program as 15 credits. You are eligible to receive a state grant for the equivalent of four years of full-time attendance at any post-secondary institution. Your award will be adjusted if (1) you are enrolled less than full-time based on the state's definition of enrollment status, or (2) the results of a transcript review indicate that you have attended the equivalent of four years of full-time attendance. You will be notified of your eligibility on a revised Financial Aid Award Notification.
