Student Employment
Search for UMC workstudy positions.
The Offices of Admissions, Student Financial Aid, and the Career and Counseling center post job listings for part-time and temporary vacancies at the University and for community employers. New positions are posted throughout the year.
To be eligible for University employment, undergraduate or adult special students must be registered for a minimum of 6 credits each term.
Student employees are paid on the regular University payroll. All payroll forms must be completed before a student can begin to work. The first paycheck will not be available until four weeks AFTER the first time card is submitted and each bi-weekly period thereafter. Thus, students who complete all employment and payroll documents and begin employment the first week of class will receive their first check approximately the first week in October. A schedule of time periods, deadline for departments to turn in time cards, and availability of checks can be obtained from the Office of Admissions and Student Financial Aid.
If you have not paid your University tuition, fees, and room and board, your paychecks MUST be applied towards these bills.

The Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) enables students to do research under the direction of a faculty member. Information and application materials are available from your academic division.
Federal/State College Work-Study (CWS)
If a college work-study award appears on your FAAN, you must apply for these jobs; they are not assigned.
If you did not receive work-study on your award, additional funds may become available. Please contact OSFA after the semester begins to see if you qualify and if there are funds available. You may be required to convert some or all of Perkins Loan or Ford/Stafford Direct Loan to qualify.
A CWS award does not guarantee employment. Hiring decisions are made by the employer. If you are not hired, or choose not to accept a position offered to you, you may apply for other CWS positions. CWS employees are currently paid $7.00 per hour.
How to Apply: CWS position vacancies are posted on the UMC Homepage. Please log on to view availability. Students are instructed to read the job openings, select the position(s) they are interested in, and to personally contact the supervisor listed to request an interview.
Maximum Earnings: Your CWS earnings are limited to the award amount shown on your Financial Aid Award Notification. To assist you in your financial award planning, your CWS award on your FAAN is divided equally among the school terms. However, you may earn more or less per term as long as your total earnings do not exceed your total CWS award. You must stop work immediately when you reach your total award.
Dates of Work: Work dates are determined by your CWS award period and registration status. A CWS award amount appears on your Financial Aid Award Notification under each term for which you may work. Please note the following requirements:
-
The first day you may work is the first day of classes for the terms you are receiving CWS funds.
-
You may work during a break only if you register at least half-time for the following term.
-
You must stop working at the end of your award period, which is the last day of the appropriate term.
-
You cannot be paid from CWS funds if you work during official emergency closings (announced by the University) or on any official University holiday.
Community Service Employment
Community service positions offer special employment opportunities with University departments and nonprofit agencies. Jobs must provide services to, or work on behalf of, primarily low-income and/or disadvantaged community members. You must be eligible for CWS award, have unmet need, or be willing to convert subsidized Ford/Stafford Direct loans to apply for these jobs. University CWS policies and procedures apply.
Community Employment
The Career and Counseling Service located in Student Center Suite 245 posts job openings in the Crookston community. Hours of employment and wages will vary with each position.
